Woodwork, Doors and Skirting in Canary Wharf

Doors, frames, skirting boards and trims, sanded and finished so the lines stay sharp.

(The job)

How we approach woodwork, doors and skirting

Woodwork takes the most wear in a home, from door edges to skirting that meets the hoover every week. It is sanded and filled first so the new coat bonds and the knocks disappear.

The line where woodwork meets the wall is what the eye notices, so it is cut in by hand and kept sharp.

(What is included)

  • Knocks and dents filled
  • Sanding before painting
  • Clean lines against the walls
  • Doors, frames, skirting and trims

How it works

Fill and sand: woodwork, doors and skirting
(01)

Fill and sand

Years of doors, hoovers and shoes leave their mark on woodwork. Bakhodirjon fills every dent and knock, then sands the old surface so new paint has something to grip. On wood, preparation is most of the finish.

Mask and protect: woodwork, doors and skirting

Mask and protect

Tape goes on along every edge being painted to. Walls, floors and door handles are covered too. It keeps the job tidy and the lines crisp.

Paint the woodwork: woodwork, doors and skirting

Paint the woodwork

Doors, frames, skirting and trims are painted with a steady hand. At Baha Brush we keep a clean line wherever woodwork meets the wall. The result frames the whole room.

Questions about woodwork, doors and skirting

Should skirting be primed or undercoated?

Bare wood needs a primer to seal it. Previously painted woodwork in sound condition usually just needs a light sand, and an undercoat when you are changing colour a long way, for example from dark to white.

How many coats of paint should skirting boards have?

Two coats over a sound base gives an even, hard wearing finish. Going over a much darker colour, or over bare wood, needs a primer or undercoat first.

Is it better to paint skirting with a brush or a roller?

A good brush for the edges and detail, sometimes a small foam roller for long flat runs, finished off with the brush. The aim is no brush marks and a clean line against the wall and the floor.

Can you paint over old gloss with water based paint?

Yes, with the right preparation. Sand the gloss to take the shine off, then use a primer that bonds to oil based paint. Skip that step and the new paint can peel off in strips.

Why does white woodwork turn yellow?

Oil based gloss yellows with age, especially away from daylight, behind radiators and in dark hallways. Modern water based satin and gloss stay white far longer, which is why we usually recommend them.
